Acolpin (MH756r)

Acolpin (MH756r)
Simplex Glyph

Glyph or Iconographic Image Description:

This black-line drawing of the simplex glyph for the personal name Acolpin (perhaps, “Small Shoulder”) is attested here as a man’s name. The glyph shows a human arm, bent at the elbow in about a forty-five degree angle, (right) hand raised. The focus seems to be the shoulder (acolli), and perhaps it is meant to appear small (pintic).

Added Analysis:

Some personal names seem to comment on a physical aspect or appearance of the person or perhaps something else they resemble (perhaps as babies). The suffix -pin (perhaps meaning small) is found on other nouns in this collection, such as a face (ixtli) and a tamalli.
