Iconography

Glyph or Iconographic Image Description:

This iconographic example, featuring ear ornaments (nacochtli) is included in this digital collection for the purpose of making potential comparisons with related hieroglyphs. The term selected for this example comes from the keywords chosen by the team behind the Digital Florentine Codex. There is no gloss. This example shows two gold ear ornaments. The top is large, flat, and round. In Book 8, folio iiv, the hole in the top flat piece is filled with turquoise. This is attached to a short cylinder that would presumably pierce the ear. The text nearby explains that this was a gift that a successful warrior might receive.
