Glyph or Iconographic Image Description: 

This iconographic example of otlatl is meant to provide a comparison for the examples of otlatl that are found in glyphs. These are canes, something like bamboo and what is called carrizo in Spanish. They are still used in Mexico today--as fencing material, for example. Here is a photo published by the Harp Helú foundation in Oaxaca showing bundles of what are called "otates" today. The "otates" are larger than carrizo and more durable.
