tepozchichiquillateconi (FCbk10f17r)
This iconographic example, featuring a European-type of saw (tepozchichiquillateconi), is included in this digital collection for the purpose of making comparisons with any related hieroglyphs. The term selected for this example comes from the keywords chosen by the team behind the Digital Florentine Codex. There is no gloss. This example shows two hands grabbing a wooden bar that runs down the middle of the tool. On the far right edge is a jagged metal saw blade. The context is a discussion of the occupation of the carpenter (cuauhxinqui or tlaxinqui) and the various tools being used in the construction of a house (calli).

Wood cutting tools in the autonomous (pre-contact) era usually involved stone, especially obsidian, or copper blades. Here, a saw has been adopted for use in construction. Below are some tools from earlier manuscripts.
