tlapallacuiloque (MH816v)
This is a black-line drawing of the simplex Nahuatl hieroglyph for the occupation of tlapallacuilo (given here in the plural, tlapallacuiloque, or tlapallacuiloqueh, with the glottal stop). The glyph shows a (right) hand holding what seems to be a paintbrush. If this were in color, perhaps the tip would be red. Interestingly, this hand is not in a fist position the way some of them are.

Another glyph referring to this same occupation appears in the Matrícula de Huexotzinco on folio 811 recto. It is a small pot containing a dark color. What may be a writing implement or a paint brush is immersed in the liquid (paint or ink). The name Tlapal, much like the glyph here, shows a (left) hand holding a writing or painting implement. Other names starting with Tlapal- are often painted red.
