Iconography

Glyph or Iconographic Image Description:

This black-line drawing of a key (tlatlapoloni) is an example of iconography from the Codex Mexicanus. It is shared here for the purpose of comparing it with a key in the Matrícula de Huexotzinco. The key is facing toward the viewer's right. It is held by a human hand, which gives it some scale.

Added Analysis:

The context image shows the person who is holding the key, possibly a saint. There is no gloss that provides the Nahuatl term for key, but this key looks enough similar to the one in the Matrícula de Huexotzinco that we are assuming it is the same type.
