Tonal (MH779r)
This black-line drawing of the simplex glyph for the personal name Tonal (perhaps “Day” or “Sun”) is attested here as a man’s name. The glyph shows a frontal view of a sun (tonalli) with an anthropomorphic face in the middle of the central circle. Coming off the circles are sixteen triangular pointed rays.
Stephanie Wood
When it is compared against suns from earlier manuscripts, the style of this sun suggests European influence. Compare this one with other examples below.
