nochtli (Mdz19r)
This glyphic elements has been carved from the compound sign for the place name, Tenochtitlan. We have cut away the stone at the base of the cactus. The nochtli refers to the fruit atop the prickly pear cactus. The cactus plant is green with spines of red and white. The fruit is bulb-shaped and has a blossom at the top. The fruit is green, and the blossom above it is red and yellow.

The entire nopalli plant will often substitute for the fruit as the visual for nochtli.
