Macuilquiyauh (MH523v)
This black-line drawing of the simplex glyph-plus-notation for the personal name Macuilquiyauh ("Five-Rain," or "5-Rain," attested here as a man's name) combines a simplex glyph for rain (quiyahuitl) with the notation of four (nahui) ones. Given the gloss, which refers to five (macuilli) either one upright line is missing or the line across the bottom of the four marks should be counted. The sign for rain is a fairly standard triangular stream of rain with a droplet or bead at the bottom. Two lines of current suggest flow or movement. The ones are simple, vertical lines. In some notations, ones are given as small circles.

"Five Rain" (or "Four Rain," if incorrectly glossed) refers to a date, a day sign in the 260-day divinatory calendar combined with a notation. The calendrical association adds religious import to the name. Some calendrical names in this manuscript are missing their companion numbers, perhaps because the divinatory naming practice was fading somewhat. This may also explain the error in the number.
