Matlactli Calli (TR29r)

Matlactli Calli (TR29r)
Simplex Glyph
Notation

Glyph or Iconographic Image Description:

This is a multicolored painting of the simplex glyph and notation for the date, Matlactli Calli. It shows a turquoise-blue house (calli) in profile, facing toward the viewer's right. Above the house are two horizontal rows of five small circles that are also painted turquoise blue. The background is red. A turquoise blue box surrounds this year date. Year dates are typically boxed in this way. The color is a phonetic indicator, calling forth the word xihuitl, which is both turquoise and "year."
