Glyph or Iconographic Image Description:

This black-line drawing of the simplex glyph for the personal name or ethnicity, Cempohualtecatl ("One from Cempohuallan"), is attested here as pertaining to a man. The glyph is of the head of a man in profile, facing toward the viewer's right. He has a green (jade?) nose ornament and a yellow (golden?) lip plug. He has very little, short, spiky hair.

Added Analysis:

The man in this glyph has a different look from the majority of taxpayers in this census, who have hair that comes to just below the ears and bangs. It would seem to be an ethnic look. The Cempohuallan glyph in the Codex Mendoza (below) shows a man with a lip plug that is turquoise. His hair has a fringe that stands up, but in the back he has a tzontli (large lock of hair wrapped with a leather thong). So, there are some differences. See also the human head atop the tepetl in the Cempohuallan compound glyph from the town's Relación Geográfica, with his hairstyle and lip plug. A turquoise lip plug (possibly called a tentetl, literally, lip stone, or a tezacatl) is part of the iconography associated with Motecuhzoma, shared below to provide more detail. The place name from which this ethnicity derives includes the word for twenty, cempohualli.
