Huelicuac (MH878v)

Huelicuac (MH878v)
Simplex Glyph

Glyph or Iconographic Image Description:

This black-line drawing of the simplex glyph for the personal name Huelicuac (perhaps “Right At That Moment”) is attested here as a man’s name. The glyph shows the head of a man in profile, facing the viewer’s right. His black hair seems to fly backwards, as though he were in a hurry. The name seems to be a reference to time (such as “at that moment” or “right then”). But one wonders whether the implication is that he was a person who was “on time,” having rushed to get somewhere.

Added Analysis:

This name could be spelled Huel Icuac, as it involves two words (huel, an intensifier, and icuac, “when”). For another expression about time, see Cuelachic below.
