calyahualli (FCbk11f244v)
This iconographic example, featuring a black and white sketch of round house (calyahualli), is included in this digital collection for the purpose of making comparisons with related hieroglyphs. The term selected for this example comes from the text near the image in the Digital Florentine Codex. There is no gloss, per se. This example shows a house made primarily of adobe bricks. It is completely round, with no corners. A flower motif runs along the top of the building, just below the roof. The doorway, framed with wooden beams, is open.

This is the first calyahualli to enter this digital collection, although one can find other round buildings in the form of structures behind the steam bath house (temazcalli), and there is one Christian church tower that appears round.
