Huecatlacatl (MH856v)

Huecatlacatl (MH856v)
Simplex Glyph

Glyph or Iconographic Image Description:

This black-line drawing of the simplex glyph for the personal name Huecatlacatl (perhaps “Person from Afar”) is attested here as a man’s name. The glyph shows a circle with a smaller concentric circle. Three alternating footprints go around inside the outer perimeter. The alternation suggests movement.

Added Analysis:

This sign is very close to glyphs for tianquiztli (markets), which may suggest that the person from afar is someone who comes a distance to sell goods at the local market. In fact, another example of a glyph for this name, Hueca- (far) -tlacatl (person) shows a man carrying a load that appears to be intended for a market.
