Huehuetzoncotl Ixpopoyotl (MH598r)
Simplex Glyph

Glyph or Iconographic Image Description:

This black-line drawing of the simplex glyph for the personal name Huehuetzocotl Ixpopoyotl (perhaps “A Little Elder Blind Person”) is attested here as a man’s name. The glyph shows the head of a woman in profile, facing toward the viewer’s right. She wears the hairstyle (neaxtlahualli) of the married woman, not the long straight hair of the maiden. But the woman’s head nevertheless seems to provide a near homophone for ixpopoyotl (a blind person) by suggesting ichpochtli (maiden). The other parts of the name are not shown visually.
