Teci (MH626r)

Teci (MH626r)
Simplex Glyph

Glyph or Iconographic Image Description:

This black-line drawing of the simplex glyph for the personal name Teci ("Aunt") is attested here as a man's name. It may come as a surprise to Western readers that this is a man's name, but the context shows how this glyph, which is the head of a woman, is attached to the head of the male tribute payer in the census. This glyph refers to an aged woman, given the lines on her face.

Added Analysis:

In this database we are tracking men's names that have a female dimension. See this option under Cultural Content in the Advanced Search. Some examples are names with the "nen" syllable, which often seems to refer to female dolls. A couple of names refer to skirts (cueitl). There is also a considerable range of men's names that start with Cihua-.
