titlantli (Mdz70r)

This example of iconography provides a painting of a messenger, glossed as such only in Spanish ("mensajero"), but we are labeling this as an example of a titlantli (messenger in Nahuatl). He appears to be walking (moving), shown in profile facing toward the viewer's right, and with his legs a step apart. He wears a cape tied at the shoulder and a loincloth. These would appear to be white cotton. The cloak has shading and folds to it, giving it a three-dimensionality. The man holds a circular, gray, red, and white feather device in his right hand.
