Tlaollan (Mdz10v)

Tlaollan (Mdz10v)
Simplex Glyph

Glyph or Iconographic Image Description:

This simplex glyph for kernels of cured corn/maize (tlaol(li)] stands for the place name Tlaollan. The -tlan locative suffix is not shown visually. The maize kernels are left white or natural here. The kernels are mounded in a basket with a weave like a petlatl (woven mat), and the basket might have been called a chiquihuitl.

Added Analysis:

Tlaollan is comprised of tlaolli plus the locative suffix (tlan), which would have dropped its "t" when combined with a stem ending in "l", leaving the double "l" in the name. White is one of the colors of Mexican maize. The basket is contextual.
