Xiloman (TR36v)
Compound Glyph

Glyph or Iconographic Image Description:

This colorful compound glyph for the personal name Xiloman ("Like An Ear of Corn," attested here as a man's name) shows a left hand reaching in from the left and grasping the green stem of an ear of corn. The ear is yellow and has two short, parallel, vertical stripes. Flowing off to the left of the top of the cob is some thick red silk. A mesh pattern appears at the ends of the silk.

Added Analysis:

The hash marks on the ear of corn are reminiscent of the marks on tortillas, raising the possibility of an iconographic sign relating to maize.

As the contextualizing image shows, this man was a ruler of Culhuacan. He is seated, shown in profile, facing toward the viewer's right. He wears a decorated cape with turquoise and red trim, an indication of his status.
