Xochiatlapal (MH812r)

Xochiatlapal (MH812r)
Simplex Glyph

Glyph or Iconographic Image Description:

This black-line drawing of the simplex glyph for the personal name Xochiatlapal (perhaps “Flower's Leaf”) is attested here as a man’s name. The glyph shows a flower (xochitl) on the left with a leaf (atlapalli) on the right--also on the side (-tlapalli). The leaf has curving lines on it that give it a three-dimensionality.

Added Analysis:

The term atlapalli can also refer to birds' wings. Another similar glyph in this collection has a slightly different spelling in its gloss, Xochatlapal. Perhaps the extra "i" in this example here is intended as a possessive indicator.
