Glyph or Iconographic Image Description:

This element for a foundation (tepechtli) has been carved from the compound sign for the personal name, Tepech. Having removed the stones at the bottom of the compound glyph explains why the bottom lines of the building blocks are not visible here. (See the full Tepech glyph and the contextual image, below.) This black line drawing shows a row of five horizontal blocks across the top, and six alternating blocks on the lower row. The whole construction is presented at a slight angle, with the right end higher than the left.

The tepechtli glyph from the Codex Mendoza includes a foot standing on the rectangular stone foundation, which helps clarify that it is a foundation and not just a wall.
