Glyph or Iconographic Image Description: 

This simplex glyph for a lagoon (ayahualli) shows water (atl) in a circle (yahualli). This has been carved from a compound glyph for a place name. We have left the green of the hill behind the water, but it is not a part of the glyph. In this bird's eye view of the lagoon, the turquoise-blue, swirling water throws off six little splashes, each with a white droplet or bead at the tip.

Hieroglyphs for various bodies of water appear below. Many have the circle filled in with water, but this was not a requirement, as shown in this glyph and the ameyalli from the Codex Mendoza.
