Milnahuatl (MH507r)

Milnahuatl (MH507r)
Simplex Glyph

Glyph or Iconographic Image Description:

This black-line drawing of the simplex glyph for the personal name Milnahuatl shows an imperfect square that seemingly represents a small agricultural field (milli) from a bird's eye view. The field has dots, which may indicate that it is cultivated. The remainder of the name (-nahuatl) is not shown visually.

Added Analysis:

The second part of this person's name (-nahuatl) could literally refer to a pleasant sound or to language, given how the contextualizing image shows the small square emerging from the person's mouth. Or, the gloss may really intend -nahuac, which would mean nearby. The small agricultural plot that was called a milpa in Spanish was ubiquitous and close to most Indigenous people's homes.
