Simplex Glyph

Glyph or Iconographic Image Description:

This colorful simplex glyph for the personal name Motecuhzoma Ilhuicamina shows a profile view of a turquoise crown or diadem with red trim. It is facing toward the viewer's right, and it is tied at the back. This is a phonetic indicator for the middle syllables (-tecuh-) of the name Motecuhzoma; the Ilhuicamina part is not shown visually here. The gloss indicates that this is the elder (huehue) Motecuzoma.

Added Analysis:

The crown, called xiuhhuitzolli in Nahuatl, is often used as a semantic indicator simply to represent tecuhtli (also spelled teuctli) (lord). Apparently this one, however, has distinguishing features that set it apart from the usual triangular red crown.
