Chicuace Tecpatl (TR36r)

Chicuace Tecpatl (TR36r)
Simplex Glyph
Notation

Glyph or Iconographic Image Description:

This red and blue painting is a simplex glyph plus notation for the year date, Chicuace Tecpatl ("Six Flint Knife"), or 1472. The date is boxed in, as is customary, with a turquoise-blue frame. Not coincidentally, the word for year (xihuitl) is the same word as for turquoise. The notation is shown as a vertical row of six (chicuace) small circles painted blue. To the left of this notation is the simplex glyph for tecpatl (flint knife). The knife has a row of teeth on the right side, from the viewer's perspective. Some leaves seem to frame the knife.
