Amanal (MH870r)

Amanal (MH870r)
Simplex Glyph

Glyph or Iconographic Image Description:

This black-line drawing of the simplex glyph for the personal name Amanal (“Whirlpool”) is attested here as a man’s name. The glyph shows a swirling body of water (amanalli), perhaps a whirlpool. Around the perimeter are short lines that are suggestive of vibrance (visual movement, shine).

Added Analysis:

The marks around the whirlpool are reminiscent of tonalli (sun-generated shine, solar energy). See some of the glyphs for the name Atonal, for example.
