Citlal (MH673r)

Citlal (MH673r)
Simplex Glyph

Glyph or Iconographic Image Description:

This black-line drawing of the simplex glyph for the personal name Citlal (“Star”) is attested here as a man’s name. The glyph shows a somewhat Europeanized depiction of a star. It has eight wavy points, each one with a line down the middle that is reminiscent of the line of current (movement) in water. At the center of the star is a small circle.

Added Analysis:

Note how different stars are shown in earlier glyphs, such as are found in the Codex Mendoza. In the Telleriano-Remensis a group of stars include the small white circles and a more Europeanized star.
