Papain (MH617r)

Papain (MH617r)
Simplex Glyph

Glyph or Iconographic Image Description:

This black-line drawing of the simplex glyph for the personal name Papain is attested here as a man's name. It shows a man in profile, wearing long wavy hair, and looking toward the viewer's right.

Added Analysis:

The spelling of this name is somewhat unusual. Glyphs with long-haired men are typically Papa or Papaitl are more common. But perhaps this name is a reduplicated form of paina, to run fast, and the long-haired man is a phonetic indicator.
