Tecahuetzca (MH671v)

Tecahuetzca (MH671v)
Compound Glyph

Glyph or Iconographic Image Description:

This black-line drawing of the compound glyph for the personal name Tecahuetzca (“He Makes fun of Others”) is attested here as a man’s name. The glyph shows a frontal view of a head with short spiky hair and an unusual face, with eyes closed and curving fangs coming out of the mouth. This looks like the face in the glyphs for laughter (huetzquiztli). Hanging down from the mouth is an upside-down flower.

Added Analysis:

The flower does not make any apparent phonetic contribution, but perhaps it has a semantic role, being somewhat silly to be hanging from the mouth, as something that might bring laughter.
