tlaxcalli (MH616v)
Element from a Compound

Glyph or Iconographic Image Description:

This element of the noun tlaxcalli (tortilla in Spanish and English) has been carved from the compound glyph for the ethnic name Tlaxcalteca (MH616v), meaning someone from Tlaxcallan (Tlaxcala, today). This tortilla is purely white, with no distinguishing markings. The hands offer the semantic clue that tortillas were formed by being patted between the hands.
