Tocentetzon (MH882v)

Tocentetzon (MH882v)
Compound Glyph

Glyph or Iconographic Image Description:

This black-line drawing of the simplex glyph for the personal name Tocentetzon (perhaps “Our Nobleman” or “Our General”) is attested here as a man’s name. Tlacatecatl may be a synonym for Centetzontli. The glyph shows a vertical corncob (centli), which provides the phonetic syllable -cen-. Below the maize cob is a horizontal stone (tetl), with its typical curling ends and diagonal stripes. This provides another phonetic syllable (-te-). The To- start to the name and the concluding -tzon are not shown visually.
