octli (Mdz65r)
This simplex glyph shows a container (called a xicalli, although this does not play a phonetic role here) full of a mildly alcoholic beverage called octli. The container has a trapezoidal shape with a significant symbol on the side and foam or bubbles shown above the rim of the bowl. The bowl is a light terracotta color.

The foam on beverages was highly prized as a rule, whether speaking of pulque, chocolate, or other beverages. The symbol on the side of the bowl is a yacametztli, crescent moon ornament for the nose. Pulque bowls typically bore this symbol (see below).
