This compound glyph for the place name Coatepec shows a serpent (coatl) in a horizontal position above and barely touching an upright, bell-shaped, green mountain or hill (tepetl). The snake is a dark grey with undulating curves. Its skin is drawn in a way to suggest scales or a rough texture. There is a rattle at the tail. The snake is shown in profile, looking toward the viewer's right. Its tongue is bifurcated and protruding.
