Xaltema (MH648r)

Xaltema (MH648r)
Compound Glyph

Glyph or Iconographic Image Description:

This black-line drawing of the compound glyph for the personal name Xaltema (perhaps meaning "Full of Sand") is attested here as a man's name. The glyph includes a largely horizontal stone (tetl) with its typically curling ends and a diagonal line. The stone is phonetic for the -te- syllable in the middle of the name. Part of the stone is missing, however, and this area is filled with sand (xalli).

Added Analysis:

The "tlapale" after this man's name is a reference to one who "has colors," or in other words, probably one who paints, a painter.
