Tencol (MH649r)

Tencol (MH649r)
Simplex Glyph

Glyph or Iconographic Image Description:

This simplex glyph for the personal name Tencol (perhaps "Hare Lip" or "Chin Strap of Valor") appears here as a man's name. It is a figure eight outlined in black and painted red. Typically this name appears in association with lips (tentli), but here it is just something twisted (colli).

Added Analysis:

If the "n" is intrusive, the name could be Tecol, which would mean Grandfather or Ancestor. But it may be more likely that this is Tencol, perhaps a person with a hare lip or someone who wears a special chin strap. The spelling of Tencol is fairly uniform across this collection, and most examples do seem to point to the lips, while this one is more of a figure 8 or a backwards S-shape.
