Tencol (MH520r)

Tencol (MH520r)
Compound Glyph

Glyph or Iconographic Image Description:

This black-line drawing of the compound glyph for the personal name Pedro Tencol ("Warrior's Chin Strap") shows a coiling line coming from the tribute payer's own mouth. This seems to refer both to the lip (tentli) and something twisted (colli), providing the phonetic elements to the name, which is not meant to be literal, unless it refers to a hare lip.

Added Analysis:

If the "n" is intrusive, then the name could be Tecol, which could mean Grandfather or Ancestor.
