Tecpanecatl (MH783r)
This black-line drawing of the compound glyph for the personal name or title, Tecpanecatl is attested here as pertaining to a man. The glyph shows the unique fence-like structure called the cuauhtecpantli, which serves as a phonetic indicator for the Tecpan- start to this title. (Credit to to Marc Thouvenot for pointing this out to me in a personal communication, 30 September 2024.) This is reinforced with the presence in the glyph of a tecpatl (flint knife), another phonetic indicator, this one for the Tecpa- start to the title. The fence or screen has the shape of an uppercase M with a bar across the top that has ties at either end. The flint knife has a pointed oval shape with a diagnostic diagonal line across the middle.
