Compound Glyph

Glyph or Iconographic Image Description:

This black-line drawing of the compound glyph for the personal name Quetzaliz (“Emerald”) is attested here as a man’s name. The glyph shows three vertical, wavy quetzal feathers (quetzalli). Below them is a human eye in a frontal view. The eye is wide open. The eye (ixtli) is a homophonic indicator for the -iz ending on the name.
