Tolnahuacatl (MH685v)

Tolnahuacatl (MH685v)
Compound Glyph

Glyph or Iconographic Image Description:

This black-line drawing of the compound glyph for the personal name or title, Tolnahuacatl (a title given to a warrior who had taken four captives), is attested here as pertaining to a man. Alternatively, this could be a "person from Tolnahuac" (a town or neighborhood "next to the tules"). The glyph shows a frontal view of a group of three tule reeds and two blossoms on spikes. At the base of this plant are two concentric circles of uncertain reading. Perhaps it is a shield, which would be a nod to the warrior’s bravery behind the title of Tolnahuacatl.
