Xochitzin Atlauhco (CQ)
Compound Glyph

Glyph or Iconographic Image Description:

This compound glyph for the place name Xochitzin Atlauhco ("At Xochitzin's Ravine") has two main features. One is a flower (xochitl) in a frontal view. It has a three petals painted red and a tripartite sepal that is left unpainted. Below the flower is a broad, horizontal, red line, outlined in black. It appears to be a ravine, shown from a bird's eye perspective.

Added Analysis:

The reverential suffix (-tzin) on the word for flower is not shown visually, nor is the locative suffix (-co), but perhaps the landscape provides a semantic locative. There is a male lord named Xochitzin who appears on this manuscript; perhaps this is a ravine in the territory associated with him. The broad red line must intend to convey the ravine (atlauhtli) implied in the remainder of the name given in the gloss.
