Yaopain (MH871r)

Yaopain (MH871r)
Compound Glyph

Glyph or Iconographic Image Description:

This black-line drawing of the simplex glyph for the personal name Yaopain (perhaps “The Combatant Ran Fast”) is attested here as a man’s name. The glyph shows a war shield (often representing yaotl, combatant), and descending footprints below that (referring to running fast, the verb paina). The shield is divided into four quadrants with an X-shape. Three of the quadrants have a small circle or U-shape.
