This black-line drawing of the compound glyph for the personal name Chimalhuilan ("Shield-Stretched," attested here as a man's name) shows a war shield (chimalli) with fringe elements of feathers that appear extra long or dragged (huilanqui). The design in the center of the circular shield is a quincunx, a quatrefoil shape with a small circle in the center.
