Tencol (MH543r)

Tencol (MH543r)
Compound Glyph

Glyph or Iconographic Image Description:

This black-line drawing of the compound glyph for the personal name Juan Tencol ("Warrior's Chin Strap") shows a coiling line coming from the head of a man that is shown in profile, facing toward the viewer's right. This seems to refer both to the lip (tentli) and something twisted (colli), providing the phonetic elements to the name, which is not meant to be literal, unless it refers to a hare lip.

Added Analysis:

If the "n" is intrusive, then the name could be Tecol, which could mean Grandfather or Ancestor.
