This black-line drawing of the compound glyph for the personal name Tlaxcalteca (a person from Tlaxcallan) is attested here as a man's name. The glyph includes the head of a person in profile, facing toward the viewer's right. His mouth is open slightly. His face is tattooed or painted with lines at right angles. In front of his face are two hands holding a tortilla (tlaxcalli), which is the root of the place name and ethnicity. A yellow hill provides a semantic locative, perhaps standing for altepetl.
