Timal (MH650r)

Timal (MH650r)
Compound Glyph

Glyph or Iconographic Image Description:

This black-line drawing of the compound glyph for the personal name Timal ("Pus" or a "Gentle Woman") is attested here as a man's name. The glyph shows a human hand (maitl), which may provide the phonetic values for the -mal ending to the name. Above and to the right of the hand is a dark gray animal standing on its hind legs, with its front legs raised up. How this contributes to the name is unclear.

Added Analysis:

In some vocabulary, the element -timal- leans toward something like "full of pride" or "glorified by others." These glyphs for the name Timal deserve further study.
