Tianquiztenco (MH815v)
Simplex Glyph

Glyph or Iconographic Image Description:

This is a black-line drawing of the simplex glyph for the place name Tianquiztenco ("At the Edge of the Market"). The glyph shows two concentric circles that form a border. The outer line is thicker than the inner line. This circular market (tianquiztli) space is filled with at least seven footprints, all in a bird’s eye view. These seem to be a semantic representation of the people and movements that are characteristic of a marketplace. At the center of the circle is a shape that is reminiscent of a small building, along with three short vertical lines to the left and perhaps two volutes below and to the right of the building shape. These signs have yet to be deciphered.

Added Analysis:

Compare this glyph to other glyphs below. It is fairly common to see the outer edge of a market divided (perhaps into stalls or individual spaces for vendors). Six to sixteen footprints fill the center of these other markets.
