Tianquiztenco (MH541r)
Simplex Glyph

Glyph or Iconographic Image Description:

This is a black-line drawing of the simplex glyph for the place name, Tianquiztenco ("At the Edge of the Market"). The town is probably famous for its market (tianquiztli). The detail of this glyph is beautifully drawn, including four concentric circles that border a segmented outer ring with small circles and short parallel lines cutting across this ring. Inside the center of the space the viewer sees a bird's eye view of sixteen footprints, a semantic representation of the movement of people.
