cuicanime (MH817v)
Simplex Glyph

Glyph or Iconographic Image Description:

This black-line drawing of the simplex glyph for the occupation cuicani (“singer”), which is given in the plural here, cuicanime (“singers”) is attested here as a man’s occupation. The glyph shows a frontal or bird’s eye view of an open book, probably a song book, which is bound. Both visible pages have marks on them of short strokes.

Added Analysis:

It is interesting to see how bound books take the place of screenfolds in glyphs relating to writing of various kinds. Also, the marks on the pages do not appear to be hieroglyphs but more like hash marks that could stand for musical notes or alphabetic writing.
