Glyph or Iconographic Image Description:

This black-line drawing of the compound glyph for the place name Tlacaxoloc (“At the Tapir [Place]") shows the head of a tapir (tlacaxolotl) in profile view atop a building. the animal's mouth is open, its large tongue protrudes, and its sharp teeth and fangs are very visible. The tapir's head is tipped back, its eye is open, and its coat is textured. The building (calli), which is shown in a frontal view and full of right angles, provides only the semantic element for the locative suffix (-c).
