Tozquihua (MH634r)

Tozquihua (MH634r)
Compound Glyph

Glyph or Iconographic Image Description:

This black-line drawing of the compound glyph for the personal name Tozquihua (perhaps, "He Can Sing") is attested here as a man's name. The two elements are a bird (apparently the toztli), and a feather, likely also from this same bird, as an added semantic indicator, perhaps because this bird was not only prized for its song but also for its feathers. Tozquitl refers to song (along with throat and voice). The possessor suffix -hua is not shown visually here.

Added Analysis:

Tozquihua was also the name of a Chalcan lord, so perhaps this person was given a famous name, if there was no intention to refer to his singing voice.
